MoodTunes is a minimalist mobile app designed to help users discover music based on how they feel. Instead of navigating endless playlists and genres, users simply select an emoji that reflects their current mood - and instantly get song recommendations to match the vibe.
This project was completed in one week and focuses on delivering a lightweight, intuitive experience that blends emotion and technology through design.
With an overwhelming number of music apps and genre filters, users often waste time searching for music that resonates with their emotional state. Traditional streaming apps offer mood-based playlists, but the process is buried under layers of menus or feels impersonal.Additionally, users want a fast, frictionless way to get into the right headspace - without logging in, creating profiles, or navigating complex UI.
MoodTunes simplifies music discovery with a playful, emoji-based interface. By reducing user input to a single tap, the app delivers a curated set of tracks tailored to their current mood.Key features include:
🎭 Emoji Mood Selector – Instantly pick a mood with a tap
🎵 Smart Playlist Generator – Songs pulled from Spotify or Apple Music
🕘 Mood History – Track and revisit your emotional soundtrack
🌈 Minimalist Design – A soft, inviting UI focused on clarity and joy
The app is designed with quick emotional connection in mind: no login, no distractions - just mood and music.
Product design, UI/UX design
The UX research process included analyzing user flows, developing in-depth user personas, and designing comprehensive customer journey maps.
The final design delivers a smooth, emotion-first music experience with a clean, user-friendly interface. Users can quickly select their mood, explore curated playlists, and revisit their emotional journey through the History tab. Feedback from early testers highlighted the app’s simplicity, engaging visuals, and the satisfying feeling of being understood through music.
